In the first four months, my country’s import and export increased by 5.8% year-on-year, with outstanding structural highlights
On May 9, the General Administration of Customs announced the report card of my country’s foreign trade import and export in the first four months. According to customs statistics, in the first four months of this year, my country’s total import and export value was 13.32 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.8% year-on-year (the same below). Among them, exports were 7.67 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.6%; imports were 5.65 trillion yuan, an increase of 0.02%; trade surplus was 2.02 trillion yuan, an increase of 56.7%.
From the perspective of the current month, my country’s import and export in April was 3.43 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.9%. Among them, exports were 2.02 trillion yuan, an increase of 16.8%; imports were 1.41 trillion yuan, a decrease of 0.8%; the trade surplus was 618.44 billion yuan, an increase of 96.5%.
While the total volume of foreign trade has grown steadily, there are many structural bright spots. Clothing, home appliances, and furniture are known as the “old three items” of foreign trade exports. Today, the “new three items” represented by electric passenger vehicles, solar batteries, and lithium batteries are popular overseas and have become new drivers of foreign trade growth.
On April 26, six staff members of solar cell manufacturer Canadian Solar Energy Technology Co., Ltd. were skillfully manipulating a forklift to pack and load a batch of solar cell modules destined for Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This batch of goods has gone through customs clearance procedures, and in a few hours will board a freighter waiting at Taicang Port to start a 45-day trip to Northern Europe.
Recently, Changzhou Customs issued the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement Certificate of Origin for the first time for pure electric vehicles produced by Changzhou BYD Automobile Co., Ltd., covering a value of 258,000 US dollars. To meet the global demand, new energy vehicle manufacturers continue to explore new markets.
Previously, Lu Daliang, spokesperson of the General Administration of Customs and director of the Statistics and Analysis Department, said at the press conference of the State Council Information Office that in recent years, the world has gradually increased its emphasis on new energy, green and low-carbon fields, and the strong demand in the international market has also driven The export of my country’s green and low-carbon products increased.
Wang Qing, the chief macro analyst of Dongfang Jincheng, pointed out that in April, the growth rate of export value and export volume of automobiles (including chassis) was further accelerated compared with the first quarter, showing the momentum of rising volume and price.
Wang Qing said that this is mainly due to my country’s “overtaking on a curve” in the field of new energy vehicles, which is greatly increasing its export share in the global market, including developed countries. At the same time, exports of lithium batteries and solar batteries also continued to grow rapidly in April, reflecting the obvious role of the transformation and upgrading of the domestic manufacturing industry in promoting exports.
According to customs statistics, in the first four months, my country exported 4.44 trillion yuan of mechanical and electrical products, an increase of 10.5%, accounting for 57.9% of the total export value. Among them, automobiles were 204.53 billion yuan, an increase of 120.3%. During the same period, the export of Laomi products was 1.31 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.8%, accounting for 17.1%.
According to customs statistics, in the first four months, my country’s imports and exports to ASEAN and the European Union increased, while those to the United States and Japan decreased. Among them, ASEAN is my country’s largest trading partner, with a total trade value of 2.09 trillion yuan, an increase of 13.9%, accounting for 15.7% of my country’s total foreign trade value.
Looking forward to the future, Xu Yingming, director of the International Market Research Institute of the Ministry of Commerce Research Institute, believes that with the implementation of RCEP and the high-quality co-construction of the “Belt and Road”, ASEAN countries and countries along the “Belt and Road” have become growth points for my country’s foreign trade development. It is expected to continue to grow in the future.
