Good sleep is an important factor in personal health and an important component of well-being. Recently, the “China Sleep Research Report 2024” (hereinafter referred to as the “Report”) was released in Beijing, edited by the Xilinmen Sleep Research Institute, developed by the Social Psychology Research Center of the Institute of Sociology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and published by the Social Science Literature Press.

The report shows that the sleep index of Chinese residents in 2023 is 62.61 points, a decrease of 5.16 points from 2022 and a decrease of 2.17 points from 2021, which is a new low in the sleep index in the past three years.

The more developed the economy, the less able you are to sleep well?

The indicator system of sleep index consists of three first-level indicators, namely sleep quality, sleep beliefs and behaviors, and sleep environment. The sleep environment index in 2023 scored 66.97 points, the highest score among the three first-level indicators; followed by the sleep quality index (66.71 points), and the sleep belief and behavior index scored the lowest (54.27 points). In terms of change magnitude, sleep belief and behavior indicators have the smallest change, with a decrease of 0.46 points compared to 2021, and a decrease of 2.28 points compared with 2022; while sleep quality indicators have the largest change, with a decrease of 4.80 points compared to 2021. points, a decrease of 7.51 points compared with 2022.

From a regional perspective, among the seven major regions, the sleep index in Northeast China has been higher for three years, while the sleep index in Northwest China and South China has been lower. The report shows that judging from the changes in the ranking of sleep index cities, in 2023, in general, the negative correlation between economic development level and sleep status will become more obvious.

In fact, the quality of sleep status of residents should be measured from two aspects: sleep duration and sleep quality. At the same time, the quality of sleep depends on the social environment, family environment and sleep environment in which people usually live.

The report shows that my country’s resident sleep market will be approximately 7.37±1.35 hours in 2023, which is basically the same as in 2022. Last year, the average time for Chinese residents to fall asleep was 23:14, and the average time to wake up was 7:15; the time to fall asleep was half an hour earlier than in 2022, and the time to wake up was more than an hour earlier than in 2022. However, more people experienced worse subjective sleep quality.

The reason is mainly due to the influence of smartphones. The report pointed out that with the development of society, smartphones have expanded the way of social interaction, entertainment and learning, and at the same time brought about the problem of excessive use of mobile phones and the possible growth of mobile phone addiction. Compared with 2021 and 2022, people’s behavior of using mobile phones and surfing the Internet before going to bed in 2023 has led to more sleep delays.

In terms of sleeping environment, in 2023, respondents said that while their satisfaction with social relationships in the social environment had declined, they also believed that the family environment and living environment had further deteriorated. The report pointed out that if residents want to improve their sleep conditions, they need to change their sleep beliefs and behaviors, and change their sleep environment. The effect of simply increasing sleep duration may not be obvious.

A multi-pronged approach is urgent to improve sleep quality

The report points out that in order to improve sleep quality, more and more people are using sleep aid products, and many consumers expect increasingly mature artificial intelligence applications to help them improve their sleep. The survey shows that home sleep aid products such as mattresses and sleep aid pillows have the greatest demand, followed by sleep environment products and sleep health care products. More consumers are looking for smart mattresses for relaxing massage, multi-angle sleeping positions, and comfort. Functional needs such as wake-up are the most urgent.

Taking household sleep-aid products (mattresses) as an example, the report shows that 69.45% of the respondents are willing to use the sleep-aid relaxation massage function, accounting for the highest proportion; followed by the multi-angle sleeping position function; followed by the comfortable wake-up function, Human health sign monitoring function, sleep aid audio (same frequency as breathing) function, and air spring adaptive adjustment function. In addition, the respondents have the least demand for the brainwave control light switch function.

It is worth mentioning that as a technological sleep brand with the mission of “committed to human health sleep”, Xilinmen has been continuously improving the technological content of sleep products with mattresses as its core while conducting research on the China Sleep Index for 12 consecutive years. , to meet consumers’ needs for healthy sleep.

In terms of product research and development, Xilinmen has invested more than 1 billion yuan in sleep technology research and development since 2012, making it the enterprise with the largest investment in research and development in the domestic industry. It is reported that Xilinmen launched Smart 1, a smart mattress that took 9 years of research and development and holds 107 patents, and teamed up with Nobel Prize winner Dr. George Smoot to create a breakthrough Ai air energy sleep-aid mattress. They are all classic cases of promoting healthy sleep through product innovation, artificial intelligence technology, deep sleep technology and other new productivity technologies. In the future, Xilinmen will continue to pay attention to sleep health in the smart era, focus on product research and development innovation, and make deep sleep truly an important force in promoting the progress of social civilization.
