Wear and share: Omega’s new Speedmaster Professional Moon dial model

As early as 2015, the Speedmaster Snoopy Award watch used a white dial, and the 2008 Speedmaster Alaska Project watch also used a white dial to pay tribute to the Alaska Project prototype watch designed by Omega in the 1970s. Earlier, in 1997 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the birth of the Speedmaster series, the Speedmaster Albino watch launched by Omega for the Italian market also used a white dial. In addition, Omega said that the red “Speedmaster” words on the new moon dial are a tribute to the red heat-insulating cover of the Alaska Project I prototype watch.
The long-awaited white dial
Except for the dial and hands, the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch White Dial is basically the same as the standard Speedmaster Moonwatch. This watch uses the same 42 mm case, equipped with a black anodized aluminum “Dot over 90” (the dot of 90 is above the number) bezel, and is equipped with the 3861 Master Chronometer chronograph movement.
Looking back on my 25 years of collecting Speedmaster watches, collectors have made three major “requests”. The first is the resumption of production of the 321 movement, which has been hotly debated for many years, and was later perfectly realized by Omega in 2019. Another request was to upgrade the bracelet that Omega has been using since 1996. In 2021, the Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is equipped with a newly upgraded bracelet, which gradually narrows from the lug to the buckle (20 mm to 15 mm). Finally, I see a lot of people hoping that Omega will introduce a white version of the regular Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. I suspect that it was the popularity of the 2008 Alaska Project I watch and the 2015 Snoopy Award watch that further contributed to the realization of this wish.
The new Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is equipped with a white lacquered dial. The key is to retain the “stepped” design of the minute track and the ring texture in the small dial. Omega uses diamond-polished black PVD hands to ensure a sharp contrast with the white lacquer dial and the time display is clearly legible.
The hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, which emits green light in the dark. The dial also features diamond-polished black PVD hour markers with square Super-LumiNova fluorescent dots.
3861 movement
The watch mirror and case back of the new Speedmaster Professional Moon Dial are made of sapphire glass to ensure that the wearer can appreciate the 3861 Master Chronometer movement. The 3861 Master Chronometer movement is the sequel to the 1861 movement. The two have the same structure, but the 3861 movement is equipped with 50% new parts, including coaxial escapement and silicon hairspring components. Compared with the 1861 movement, the 3861 movement is more accurate. The daily time accuracy is increased from -1/+10 seconds to 0/+5 seconds, and it has an anti-magnetic performance of 15,000 Gauss.
The Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch equipped with the 3861 Master Chronometer movement has passed the test of the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). The watch is waterproof to 50 meters.
Watch straps and bracelets
The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon Dial White Dial model is available in three different models: a stainless steel bracelet model (Model: 310.30.42.50.04.001), and a black microperforated leather strap model decorated with red and white stitching (Model: 310.32.42.50 .04.001), and rubber strap model (model: 310.32.42.50.04.002). The rubber strap is exactly the same as the one on the “Moonshine Panda” version from a few years ago. It fits the case perfectly and is decorated with a three-dimensional lunar surface pattern on the inside. Both leather and rubber straps have folding clasps.
