Japan is one of my favorite countries to travel to. The food there is very delicious and hygienic, the place where you live is clean and beautiful, and the surrounding environment is orderly and safe, so you can eat, live, and travel happily and safely.

Easily inspire gratitude

I came to a small town by the sea in Wakayama to live in a hot spring resort. When I came to such a beautiful natural environment, I put aside the tense mood of my usual medical practice and enjoyed the leisurely life.

When I went to the resort restaurant for breakfast in the morning, I found a simple placemat spread on the dining table, with two Chinese characters written in ink on it: Gassho. These two simple words seemed to have magic power. As soon as they came into my eyes, I couldn’t help but with a heart of gratitude and joy, I put my palms together and closed my eyes in front of the dining table to pray.

At first I was just grateful for the delicious food on the table, then I was grateful for a wonderful travel and leisure time, and a safe travel itinerary; but then all the things worth being grateful for in my life poured out of my heart in an endless stream.

I am grateful for my healthy body, stable job, and warm family; I am grateful for my family members who have accompanied me through ups and downs, my mentors who have taught me how to practice medicine, and my friends who have shared many happy moments growing up with me and who have unlimited trust in me. patients (and their families). At the moment when I put my hands together, many hearts of gratitude, big and small, suddenly emerged, and tears of gratitude moistened my eyes.

It turns out that joining hands together can easily inspire gratitude, and gratitude can breed more gratitude until it reaches an endless state. At that moment I suddenly discovered that clasping hands together is such a beautiful body posture.

I think about ordinary days, in addition to putting our hands together to express gratitude, we also put our hands together to pray. I am a Christian, so when I pray, I usually interlock my fingers; but occasionally I pray with my palms together, but every time I travel and visit temples, I see devout believers closing their eyes and joining their palms in front of the gods to pray. , I will feel an inexplicable touch. I believe that by joining hands and praying, the deepest expectations of these believers can be entrusted to the God of infinite energy.

There is an inexplicable feeling

I believe that by joining the palms together, these believers who embrace the power of faith can better experience inner peace and tranquility. In praying with their hands together, their souls were cleansed by God. The world becomes a better place because of the prayers of these people with their hands together. Thinking of how many people around the world are suffering in the raging wars, I can’t help but clasp my hands to pray for world peace.

Putting your palms together is not only a gesture of thanksgiving and prayer, but also a gesture of respect and reverence. During the COVID-19 epidemic, I did not shake hands with patients to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus; therefore, some patients put their hands together and bowed to me after the consultation, and I responded in this way. Between clasping hands and bowing to each other, all goodwill naturally flows out.

Putting your hands together is really a beautiful word!
