The report shows that in 2023, Chinese residents will achieve the “early to bed and early to rise FLAG”. The average time to fall asleep is 23:14, and the average time to wake up is 7:15. Regular work groups sleep the shortest hours each night
Employment status is a key factor when analyzing sleep patterns. The report pointed out that the unemployed group had the longest average sleep time per night, at 7.49 hours; the flexible employment group had the middle amount of sleep per night, at 7.4 hours; the fixed job group had the shortest sleep time per night, at 7.01 hours.
The report shows that in terms of average sleep duration per night, 40.94% of respondents without a job have an average sleep duration of 7 to 8 hours per night; those with fixed jobs have an average sleep duration of 7 to 8 hours per night. The proportion is 40.25%; the proportion of flexible employment respondents whose average sleep duration is 7 to 8 hours per night is 56.16%. The proportion of unemployed respondents who reported an average sleep duration of “less than 7 hours” and “more than 8 hours” per night was the highest among the three. Respondents with flexible employment reported an average sleep duration of “7 to 8 hours per night”. The ratio is the highest among the three.
In terms of gender, women’s average sleep duration per night is longer, and men’s average nap duration per day in fixed and flexible employment groups is longer.

The report further analyzes the influencing factors behind the sleep duration of different groups. Judging from the survey, employment status does affect individuals’ daily habits, especially sleeping habits. In terms of nap duration, respondents without a job reported the highest proportions of “almost never nap” and “60 minutes or more”, respondents with fixed jobs reported the highest proportion of “within 30 minutes”, and respondents with flexible employment reported ” 30~60 minutes” has the highest ratio.
The report points out that the life rhythms and stress levels of unemployed respondents are different, and the nap duration shows different patterns; respondents with fixed jobs are more willing to seek recovery of physical condition within a limited time; for respondents with flexible employment, In other words, the average daily nap duration of 30 to 60 minutes may reflect their relatively flexible work arrangements and life pace.
This report also focuses on the sleep quality of the respondents. In terms of self-evaluation of sleep quality, the proportion of unemployed respondents reporting “very good” and “very poor” was the highest among the three; the proportion of respondents with fixed jobs reporting “fairly good” and “poor” was the third.
