Industry insiders pointed out that factors such as the rapid development of domestic cross-border e-commerce platforms and the shift of purchasing habits of overseas customers to online have accelerated the development of new cross-border e-commerce formats, which have become a new engine for foreign trade growth.

Foreign trade enterprises “nuggets” a new track for cross-border e-commerce

“Last year, we won an order of more than 3 million yuan in just three days through cross-border e-commerce channels, which is impossible under the traditional foreign trade model.” Luo Chang, CEO of Shenzhen Zoetis Technology Co., Ltd. said, Through cross-border e-commerce, cross-border live broadcast, etc., overseas customers can quickly and intuitively understand the production capacity of the enterprise, so as to quickly make a decision to place a sample order.

Zoteng Technology is a microcosm of many foreign trade enterprises. The reporter learned that cross-border e-commerce has become an important way for many foreign trade companies to obtain orders.

“Cross-border e-commerce is relatively easy to start. From the beginning of the company’s establishment, we have taken cross-border e-commerce as the main customer acquisition channel for the company.” Fang Zefu, founder of Shenzhen Miancheng Technology Co., Ltd., said that the company’s customer orders and inquiries this year , have maintained rapid growth, and it is estimated that the revenue at the end of the year will increase by 2 to 3 times compared with last year.

“Last year, on the basis of cross-border e-commerce, we further expanded the cross-border live broadcast business, and the effect was very good. This year, the company won more than 100 customers in the cross-border live broadcast.” Shenzhen Maiwei Times Technology Co., Ltd. Marketing Director Wu Xinhe said that cross-border live broadcasting has become an important channel for enterprises to acquire customers.

According to data from the General Administration of Customs, in the first half of this year, my country’s cross-border e-commerce import and export reached 1.1 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16%, which effectively helped my country’s foreign trade to stabilize its scale and optimize its structure. “my country’s cross-border e-commerce has huge growth potential, and it has increasingly become a new driving force for foreign trade growth and economic development.” said Zhu Keli, executive director of the China Information Association and founding president of the National Research Institute of New Economy.

“Driven by new technologies, the purchasing habits of overseas companies are rapidly shifting to online, and digital foreign trade has become a necessity and an irreversible trend of global trade.” said Qin Fen, head of the industry and merchant business at Ali International Station.

Multiple factors promote the rapid development of new cross-border e-commerce formats

Industry insiders pointed out that factors such as the rapid development of my country’s cross-border e-commerce platforms and the transfer of overseas customers’ purchasing habits to online are important reasons for the accelerated development of new cross-border e-commerce formats.

First, my country’s cross-border e-commerce platforms are developing rapidly. “my country’s digital economy is developing rapidly, and domestic cross-border e-commerce platforms have formed certain comparative advantages, which is an important reason for the accelerated development of new cross-border e-commerce formats,” said Zheng Wei, an associate researcher at the China Service Outsourcing Research Center.

Pinduoduo’s cross-border e-commerce platform TEMU has entered Australia, New Zealand and other markets; ByteDance’s cross-border e-commerce business is expanding rapidly in the Southeast Asian market; Import platforms, cross-border export platforms dominated by AliExpress and international websites… my country’s cross-border e-commerce platforms have obvious comparative advantages.

Second, the structure of overseas customers and changes in trade methods. Luo Chang said that the current overseas customer base tends to be younger, and the proportion of “post-90s” and “post-95s” customers continues to increase. The younger generation of customers is more “network-oriented” and “media-oriented”, and tends to quickly understand the production capacity of enterprises through cross-border live broadcasts and other methods.

Fang Zefu said that with the increasing number of overseas small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, the trade mode in which large foreign buyers directly connect with large domestic factories is changing. These overseas small and medium-sized start-ups have brought more opportunities for Chinese small and medium-sized foreign trade companies that start businesses online.

Third, the cross-border e-commerce logistics system has been continuously improved. Zhu Keli said that with the new digital infrastructure and the iteration of information technology, the e-commerce platform and logistics system have become quite mature, able to provide efficient and convenient cross-border e-commerce services and provide consumers with a better shopping experience. “With the help of cross-border e-commerce platforms, global consumers can ‘buy the world’ anytime, anywhere, and more and more global consumers are accustomed to online shopping.”

Make up for shortcomings and promote better development of the industry

Industry insiders pointed out that problems such as imperfect infrastructure and talent shortage have become obstacles to the development of cross-border e-commerce.

Zhu Keli suggested that multiple measures should be taken to “make up” the shortcomings. First, increase investment in infrastructure construction, improve customs clearance efficiency, optimize logistics and information flow channels, and reduce business operating costs; second, establish a sound overseas warehouse service system to improve storage and distribution capabilities; third, strengthen cross-border e-commerce talent training , cooperate with universities and enterprises to establish a comprehensive cross-border e-commerce talent training system, increase talent training and introduction; fourth, optimize the legal environment, promote the establishment of a sound cross-border e-commerce legal and regulatory system, and formulate policies that meet the needs of industry development The fifth is to strengthen brand building and intellectual property protection in the field of cross-border e-commerce, crack down on infringements, protect the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises and consumers, and improve the core competitiveness of enterprises.

Zhong Zeyu, vice president and secretary-general of the China Association for Trade in Services, proposed to promote the formulation of professional standards for cross-border e-commerce, and explore a new mechanism for the integration of production and education to jointly educate people.
