Self-driving cars start technical testing in central Tianjin

At the intersection, the vehicle slowed down steadily and turned flexibly; on the in-car screen, the surrounding road conditions and driving distance were clearly visible… Self-driving cars have been driven on the “smart roads” in central Tianjin for technical testing.
Based on the vehicle-road-cloud integrated system architecture, Tianjin has built the “Hebei District Coastal River Autonomous Driving Connection Line” with a total length of approximately 7.3 kilometers in Hebei District, located in the central urban area. In August this year, the district obtained the first batch of self-driving road test licenses in central Tianjin, and then began testing two self-driving minibuses on public roads to identify and respond to traffic lights and surrounding vehicle driving status, and pull over and park. .
Hebei District has many narrow roads, one-way roads, intertwined railway tunnels, and complicated road conditions. There are many considerations in choosing a section of road with dense passenger flow and large traffic volume along the Haihe River as the test road.
“After a large number of preliminary tests and verifications, the Internet of Vehicles and autonomous driving technology have now become mature. The most important thing next is to promote the commercialization of the Internet of Vehicles.” Ma?, CEO of Tianjin Artificial Intelligence Computing Center, said that only by allowing autonomous driving Only when vehicles drive into the central area of the city and organically integrate with passenger flow, scenic spots, transportation elements, etc. can we truly promote the construction of vehicle-road-cloud integration.
According to reports, the vehicle-road-cloud integrated intelligent connected car can use the new generation of information and communication technology to conduct two-way interaction and collaboration between the physical space and information space of people, vehicles, roads and clouds to achieve safe, energy-saving, comfortable and efficient operation.
As self-driving cars move from the laboratory to the open road, the deep integration of smart transportation and life is expected to promote industrial changes in more fields.
“The Internet of Vehicles is not simply connecting vehicles to the network, but a complete closed loop formed by vehicles, roads, infrastructure, software algorithms, etc.” said Zhang Yanan, chief expert of China Automotive Technology Research Center Co., Ltd., with the optimization and popularization of technologies such as autonomous driving , chips with more powerful computing power and stable and high-capacity networks will become the “infrastructure” of the automotive industry, and the connected role of Internet of Vehicles-related technologies will also become more prominent.
Ma? believes that vehicle-road-cloud integration will not only help improve transportation efficiency, but will also produce positive social benefits in promoting the development of cultural tourism economy and industry, and promoting the construction of smart cities.
“As self-driving cars enter central urban areas, the city can attract more high-tech companies engaged in software algorithm development, data analysis and other businesses to settle in, promoting the overall transformation of the automobile industry in the direction of electrification, intelligence, networking, and sharing. .” Ma? said that the hot cultural tourism industry will also inevitably provide a wealth of commercial application scenarios for the Internet of Vehicles such as unmanned connections and automatic logistics, and build a platform for the development of related enterprises.
It is reported that Hebei District of Tianjin City will also install intelligent road testing equipment on both sides of the connection lines. It is currently applying for the opening of 45 intelligent network test roads with a total length of approximately 53.3 kilometers to further promote the construction of smart transportation.
