The script of the TV series “The Great Tide Rises from the Pearl River” tells the story of the transformation of a commercial port on the west bank of the Pearl River in Guangdong from a small town to a modern city during the more than 40 years of reform and opening up. It depicts the emotions, concepts, and lifestyles of three generations in the oscillation of time and space from closure to openness. The conflicts and changes in other aspects unfolded a vivid animation full of Guangdong and Hong Kong style and fireworks.

At the meeting, Chen Xi, the screenwriter of the play, introduced the creation of the play in terms of its original intention, creative ideas and script content. Experts fully affirmed the early creation of the script of “The Tide Rises from the Pearl River” and believed that the play was relatively solid in terms of subject matter value, structural design, and character creation. In terms of subject matter, this drama is a “grand narrative” that reflects the important historical process of reform and opening up, but the incision is very “small”. It focuses on several “small town youths” more than 40 years ago and uses the development of the small town of Lions Gate as an example. The clues weave a huge network of interpersonal relationships, making the small town during the wave of reform and opening up vivid and vivid on the paper, reflecting the people-centered creative orientation. From a value perspective, this play is a panoramic work that reflects Guangdong as the forefront of reform and opening up. It artistically reproduces the magnificent historical torrent of more than 40 years and shows the Chinese nation’s high spirit of self-reliance and self-reliance at the forefront of the times. At the same time, the participating experts put forward targeted opinions and suggestions on the script’s theme concept, characterization, narrative structure, plot tension, etc., to enhance the artistic appeal of the script.

One of the highlights of this seminar is that the Screenwriters Professional Committee of the China Television Association features “screenwriters meeting screenwriters and peer reviewers” as a feature. It combines theory with practice and provides wisdom and suggestions for the play from a professional perspective.

Dong Tao emphasized in the seminar summary that in recent years, the China Television Association has thoroughly implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on literary and artistic work, given full play to its organizational and professional advantages, and persisted in integrating “the work of being a human being” and “promoting the creation of excellent works”. Since then, a lot of work has been done in theme activities, awards and festivals, theoretical seminars, education and training, and work style construction. In particular, in recent years, it has attached great importance to supporting script creation. Since the end of 2017, the China Television Association has carried out a script creation support program for key realistic TV series for four consecutive years, funding 100 scripts in nine batches, and many of the supported works have won the “Five National awards such as the “First Project” Award, China TV Golden Eagle Award, and China TV Drama Feitian Award have played a positive role in promoting the creation of reality-themed TV series. It is expected that the script of “Tide Rising from the Pearl River” will fully absorb the opinions and suggestions of the participating experts and further polish it to create an excellent work with profound thoughts, exquisite art and excellent production.
