As the fifth most abundant element in the earth’s crust, sodium’s global reserves are 2.64%, which is 440 times that of lithium, and it is widely distributed in my country. At the same time, compared with traditional lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries have obvious advantages such as short charging time, high energy density, low cost, recyclability, and higher safety. It is precisely because of this series of advantages that the research and development and application process of sodium-ion batteries have always attracted great attention from relevant departments and manufacturing industries in my country.

In 2021, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration proposed to accelerate the large-scale test demonstration of sodium-ion batteries and other technologies in the “Guiding Opinions on the Development of New Energy Storage”; in 2022, my country will include sodium-ion batteries in the “14th The Five “Plan for Scientific and Technological Innovation in the Energy Field” supports the research on cutting-edge technology and core technology and equipment of sodium-ion batteries; in January 2023, six departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued the “Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of the Energy Electronics Industry” to clearly strengthen new energy storage batteries. Industrialization technology research, research and breakthroughs in key technologies such as ultra-long-life, high-safety battery systems, large-scale, large-capacity and efficient energy storage, and accelerated research and development of new batteries such as sodium-ion batteries.

Under the promotion and guidance of policies, the research, development and application of sodium-ion batteries in my country have made great progress. Especially in the field of two-wheeled electric vehicles that are closely related to energy storage technology, in order to avoid “stuck” key technologies and resources, while ensuring the safety of hundreds of millions of existing users and effectively improving cruising range, there is an urgent need to find a safe and efficient vehicle. , battery product technology with high mass specific energy and cycle life that meets the needs of electric two-wheeled vehicles, the application and promotion of sodium-ion batteries can be said to be at the right time.
